It is 1963, in a small store in the historic centre of Vic. Three friends meticulously work out a project: to open a small metallurgy workshop. They have what they need: a trade, experience, contacts and knowledge of the sector. They know they can offer something that will have a place in the market. They also have the most important thing: great expectations. They start off precariously, with very limited resources: little economic means, basic tools, minimum personnel, and everyone does a little bit of everything, working as operators, administrators and salesmen. They work under tough conditions, long hours by day and even by night. They decide to give their project a name and a trademark: FERG. The acronym stands for the first letters of the partners' last names, FERnàndez and Grau, but it also stands for the initials of the values the company wants to offer: F for Fiabilidad (reliability), E for Experience, R for Regularity and G for Guarantee. Design of the logo adheres to highly precise and functional criteria: an associative symbol of three linked rings, symbolising the union among the three founding partners. The printing is compact, clear and lacks "decorative" frills. The colours are basic: red for heat tempering and black for material solidity. It is framed by a rectangle, the purest of geometric shapes. Today, from a perspective of 35 years, the trademark has not lost a bit of its identifying force. Even more importantly, however, is the fact that the values it represents remain as much a priority in our company as they were the very first day.
